Spring is the time of renewal and regeneration. this is the time that the tress awaken from their sleep and seeds, dormant through winter’s darkness, break through their casings and begin movement upon the earth. In the African tradition of Ifa, this is the time of Oshun; the spirit keeper of Rivers and sweet waters. Oshun governs the power of manifestation; manifestation of passion, life abundance and children. Spring is the time of women and honoring of feminine energies. we find it easy to honor the earth so dependent we are upon her fertility and abundance. Often times, we forget to honor the women; our mothers, sisters and daughters who make life possible and make a way for our ancestors to return among us. We fight with them, disrespect them, and hold them as less important than men simply because they are not men. Women are our connection to all that we hold sacred, our families, out children, our ancestors and our physical survival. Today, we honor our women with the Lakota Women’s SocietySong. Let it be an everyday remembrance.
